NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Thursday criticised Disha Salian's father approaching court demanding an FIR against Aaditya Thackeray. He called it an "attempt to malign the name of a youth leader."
Earlier, Satish Salian, father of Disha Salian approached the Bombay high court seeking a fresh investigation into his daughter’s mysterious death in June 2020.
Sanjay Raut accused political opponents of exploiting the tragedy for their own agenda.
"I have looked at the police investigation, and it was an accident, not a murder... Her father has filed a petition five years after the incident. The whole state knows the politics behind this petition... These people could not thrive on the Aurangzeb issue they raised, the tide of which turned against them. They are giving wind to Disha Salian case to wash their hands off of the Aurangzeb issue... This dirty politics is defaming our state's name. This is an attempt to malign the name of a youth leader who is doing good work and our party..." Sanjay Raut said.

The father said his daughter was brutally raped, murdered, and to demand immediate "custodial interrogation" of MLA Aaditya Thackeray.
His lawyer Nilesh Ojha said they were still in the process of filing the petition. He said he would get it numbered at the high court registry department on Thursday. Disha died on June 8, 2020, after falling off the 14th floor of a residential building. Cops had registered an accidental death report in the case.
Despite Salian's parents' February 2022 request for privacy and to stop tarnishing their daughter's reputation, Salian now states he was initially misguided by officials. Through detailed investigation and personal observations, he has gathered substantial evidence contradicting the police narrative. The petition criticised Mumbai police for hastily concluding it as suicide or accidental death, disregarding forensic evidence, circumstances and witness statements.
The petition states: "The petitioner contends that Disha's death was not an accident or a case of suicide, as authorities have claimed, but rather a premeditated act of violence, wherein she was brutally raped and murdered. The actions of the accused and the immediate political interference in the probe suggest a deliberate and systematic effort to bury the truth." It also seeks action against certain Bollywood personalities and former mayor Kishori Pednekar.
Disha's father acknowledged being misled by Pednekar into complaining against minister Nitesh Rane, who had demanded justice. Rane urged Thackeray to reveal the truth and step down as MLA. Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam advised the father to present any evidence to the home department.
