It was a cold night, but things were heating up on the set of Caarthick Raju’s Kannaadi. While the director and choreographer Sheriff were bustling about, trying to get the setting in place, cinematographer Pramod Varma was looking through rushes, ensuring the shots were good. And then, we spotted the film’s leads — Sundeep Kishan and Anya Singh — relaxing after turning on the heat for a song they were filming for the movie.

“It’s a romantic song; a very sweet, cute one. It will feature in the film at an important point during the course of the story, and will lead to something very thrilling. Thaman has composed the number, and we have shot with the track version. It’s a very personal song; it showcases personal, sweet moments between the couple. Sheriff Master has choreographed the number for us,” begins an excited Sundeep.

The number was shot for three nights on the outskirts of the city, and the actor says this will be one of the high points of the film. According to Caarthick, who had earlier made Thirudan Police, this film will “start on a horror note, but dive into other genres after about 15-20 minutes. So, there’s mystery, emotion and then humour in the film.”
He’d told us earlier, too, “We can hide our mistakes from others, but not from our conscience. A mirror will show us our true reflection. Sundeep and Anya play MBA students, and the mirror becomes an integral part of their life.”

Prod Sundeep about his role, and he says, “This character, in a way, is an extension of what I did in Maanagaram earlier. It won’t be a clichéd, hackneyed, boy-next-door role. The kind of scope this film offers —–in terms of characterisation and even performance — excites me.” He adds, “Even Anya has such a strong role. She is childish at one point, mature at another. Her character graph keeps changing very often. And since this is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual, she had learnt both the languages and delivered her lines alternatively in both these languages.”
With about five more days of shoot left, the team says it can’t wait to show the audience a glimpse of it.
