Rajinikanth and acclaimed filmmaker
Mani Ratnam are set to collaborate once again, after 33 years. Their previous collaboration was the 1991 release '
Thalapathi', which attained a cult status in Kollywood. Rumours are rife that director Mani Ratnam is planning to approach Rajinikanth for his next film.
Their previous collaboration, which also featured Mammooty in the lead role, was inspired by Mahabharatha's Karna and Duryodana's friendship.
The movie was a huge commercial success and it was a huge break for both the leading stars in the Tamil film industry.

On the other hand, Mani Ratnam collaborated with
Kamal Haasan after 34 years for 'Thug Life' and the shooting for the film has now been wrapped up. Scheduled for a release next year, the movie has an ensemble cast of Kamal Haasan, Trisha, Simbu, Nasser, Abhirami, Joju George, Gautham Karthik, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sanya Malhotra, Ali Fazal and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles and the music for it is composed by AR Rahman.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth is gearing up for the release of his film '
Vettaiyan' which is set to be out in theatres in 4 days, on October 10. Directed by TJ Gnanavel, the movie stars Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Fassil, Manju Warrier, Dushara Vijayan, Ritika Singh, Abhirami and Rakshan. The film's music is composed by
Anirudh Ravichander. The superstar actor also has his 71st film 'Coolie' with
Lokesh Kanagaraj and the first schedule was recently wrapped up in Hyderabad. The cast includes Rajinikanth, Shruti Haasan, Nagarjuna, Upendra Rao, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
On the other hand, Mani Ratnam's previous outing was with the epic film 'PS 2' which received good reviews.
