Kamal Haasan reveals he asked Sivaji Ganesan to not accept National Award for 'Thevar Magan'

Kamal Haasan in a recent interview with a regional media revealed that he had earlier convinced late actor Sivaji Ganesan to decline the National Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1993. Kamal Haasan said that the legendary actor would have received the award for his role in ‘Thevar Magan’, however, he asked Sivaji Ganesan to turn down it.

Kamal Haasan in a recent interview with a regional media revealed that he had earlier convinced late actor Sivaji Ganesan to decline the National Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1993. Kamal Haasan said that the legendary actor would have received the award for his role in ‘Thevar Magan’, however, he asked Sivaji Ganesan to turn down it. The Ulaganayagan felt that the award did not do good justice to Sivaji Ganesan’s talent or stature as it was an award for a supporting actor.

Kamal Haasan also revealed that everyone was upset because the acting legend got the award only for the role of a supporting actor. Kamal Haasan reportedly stated that he asked Sivaji Ganesan not to collect the National Award and requested him to wait and collect the Dadasaheb Phalke Award when he receives it. Then, in 1996, Sivaji Ganesan was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award which is the highest honour in Indian cinema.
In the interview, Kamal Haasan also said that he is happy and proud for being part of his gurus and teachers winning the National Awards. On the work front, Kamal Haasan was last seen in the film 'Vikram' which is a blockbuster hit of the year and will soon be working on his next film directed by Mahesh Narayanan which is said to go on floor this month. There is also a speculation that Kamal Haasan is scripting for the film with Mahesh Narayanan and it is touted that the film will be a seequel of Thevar Magan. Meanwhile, it is also official that Kamal Haasan's film with director Shankar 'Indian 2' which has been long delayed will be revived this year.
