Music maestro
Sardool Sikander’s sons Sarang and Alap, trained under their talented dad, will now take forward Sikander family’s strong musical legacy. They are the third generation of the family of music greats. Sardool, who died on Wednesday in Mohali near Chandigarh, was not a strict dad. He had told us once how he personally felt when he took over the reins of music from his father late Sagar Mastana, a famous tabla player.
Sarang is a music production specialist, whereas Alap is an audio engineer. Main training and riyaz sessions started for them many years ago as Ustad Sardool used to sit with them to talk about the nuances of Punjabi folk.
Sarang and Alap used to accompany their dad during his professional as well as personal outings and one would see the duo indulging in quick chat at the event. Both the budding artistes have a unique way to present their creations. Sardool had also shared with us some time back that first they identified their (sons) interests so that both of them feel free to pursue their respective passions.
After they left to pursue professional degrees in audio and music, they picked up stage skills. Besides Punjabi and Hindi, they both have been singing in English too. They have a band too.
