After bagging the National Award for best playback singer, disciple of Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, Mahesh Kale is in a blissful mood. He explains his happiness: Being a trained classical singer, my faith in the purity of music is reaffirmed; after all, no recognition can be bigger than a National Award. An engineer, and a technocrat who is forever upgrading his management skills via various educational courses, Mahesh stays in San Francisco for long durations.
He says: I have always felt that you can take a man away from India, but you cant take India away from him. This equation of staying away is quite dynamic. Of late, however, I have spent a lot of time in India.
The singer, who has got the National Award for a number in Subodh Bhaves directorial debut Katyar Kaljat Ghusali, doesnt want to ponder over any criticism that usually comes in the wake of a National Award. This is a happy moment and I dont want to think about negative things. I honestly feel there will be no controversy about my getting a National Award because I have received an overwhelming response from my fraternity. As a singer, he has mostly opted for puritanical renditions. But now, is he ready for a Bollywood chartbuster or even an item song? Without a moments hesitation, he replies: I am a devotee of good music. If any form of music appeals to me, be it Bollywood or world music, I would love to go for it!
