Indian weddings are always about grandeur, but COVID-19 has forced many to restructure the big fat bash. Malayalam actor
Roshan Basheer tied the knot with his lady love Furzana in August 2020. In an exclusive conversation with ETimes,
Roshan Basheer spoke about having a lockdown wedding, his lady love, and also shared his views on pandemic.
“Life is moving at an exciting and unexpected pace.
Everything gets easy when you have a partner who understands you. I can share it all with Furzana and so I am optimistic every day. That makes me work with more passion. She is very supportive both in my career and business,” the newlywed Roshan Basheer said and his each and every word testified that he is in love with his lady Furzana.
Roshan’s wife Furzana who has recently completed LLB with flying colors will soon pursue her Master's degree. Roshan Basheer and Furzana tied the knot in August in the presence of immediate family, friends, and relatives. Due to the current health scare, Roshan Basheer and Furzana opted for a small intimate wedding, and the actor confesses that he doesn’t regret it.
We asked him if the trend should be followed in a post-pandemic era and the actor shares, “Yes, obviously, without any doubt! Earlier weddings were all about lavishness, luxury, and extravagance. And the pandemic has definitely put a halt to it. I had an intimate wedding during the lockdown. And I didn’t feel that it lacked emotions or was less memorable. Yes, there wasn’t a huge gathering like usual, but the ceremony gave the sentiments and warmth it is supposed to be giving.”
The actor also shares that most of them might disagree with his statement. “I know people who believe in an extravagant ceremony might not agree with me, but I feel the lesser the crowd, the better it is. For such weddings, the invitees are the people we know and at least we know the people who are attending an important ceremony in life. Also, the food is not wasted. We know who all are attending and will be arranging the feast only for a definite number of people. It is a trend we should carry forward, even in a non-pandemic era,” he adds.
The pandemic has changed lives dramatically and the repercussions are yet to be calculated. But the work-from-home phase and lockdown is also said to be changing gender roles, especially in household chores. Roshan Basheer and Furzana are living in Kochi and the couple had to keep track of household chores like any other. As the entertainment industry was one of the least needed during the pandemic, Roshan Basheer was at home for a couple of months after his wedding. When asked if the pandemic has redefined domestic responsibilities, the actor agrees, he shares, “The whole lockdown and the pandemic have brought a change. When my wife is busy with her work, I will be the one taking care of all the household chores. We both do what we can and help each other. We handle the house cleaning stuff together. When gyms were closed we used to work out in our home together and it was fun. Everything is beautiful when you have mutual understanding and respect. I am not sure how long this would last, but I wish this trend never dies.”
The actor also divulges that he learned a lot of household chores before his marriage as it was lockdown, “When I was in Calicut at my parents' house, I never visited the kitchen except to eat. But when the lockdown happened, I tried to advocate changes myself. I started doing my dishes after having a meal. I know this might sound simple, but it has a very enthusiastic impact.”
The actor signs off, adding “I believe small changes make a big difference.”
