Tajdar Amrohi: Casting for Kamal Amrohi and Meena Kumari's biopic won’t be easy -Exclusive!

Kamal Amrohi's son Tajdar Amrohi is keen on seeing a biopic on his father and Chhoti Ammi, Meena Kumari come to fruition. But staging such an ambitious project is not easy. Tajdar revealed to ETimes, “It’s difficult because today there are casting directors. Kamal Amrohi and Meena Kumari are likely to be the central characters in the film. We will send their photographs to the casting directors.Now the policy has changed. Now directors and producers don’t find actors. It is the casting directors who do that.”
He is convinced that his opinion is most important but he's not going to be difficult. He said, "I want to give the makers a free hand. Let them come up with a few options before I can give my opinion. But that process will take some time. We have a lot of things to finalize from sets, casting to director. Maratha Mandir will also be decorated where Paakeezah was released. It’s a huge project."
Tajdar is hoping to cast the absolute right faces for the roles of Kamal Amrohi and Meena Kumari. He said, “There are many actresses who are desperate to portray Meena Kumari on screen. But it will be more difficult to cast an actor as Kamal Amrohi. He was a very handsome man and had a hypnotizing personality. He had a heavy voice and very good diction. We will need an actor whose eyes can do the talking. Aakhir Meena ji ne unn par fida hokar unn se shaadi ki thi. She stayed and completed the film Paakeezah. It was a very long association. Today, both their graves are beside each other.”
He recalled the relationship between Meena Kumari and his father and said, “Meena ji was working with the topmost directors and actors of the time, most of who were bachelors. But she must have seen something really great in Kamal Amrohi that she married him over any other film star who are usually admired by the public. He was already a man with three children but Meena ji left her Iqbal Bungalow near Mehboob Studio and went to live with him in Sion.”
Emphasizing the fact that it won’t be easy to cast his father, Tajdar said, “Kamal Amrohi was an unmatched personality. At that time many directors and producers had offered him to play hero in films but he refused.”
