Bollywood lost yet another legend as ace choreographer
Saroj Khan, breathed her last today. The 71 year old prolific choreographer, was laid to rest at a cemetery in Malad. “We buried her at around 7 am. The prayer meeting will be held after three days,” the veteran choreographer’s daughter, Sukaina Khan told PTI.
Saroj Khan passed away due to cardiac arrest and was admitted to a city hospital on June 20, after she had complained of breathing issues.
“She passed away due to cardiac arrest at around 2.30 am at the hospital,” Saroj Khan’s nephew Manish Jagwani had told PTI.
Madhuri shared a close bond with Saroj Khan and they had collaborated on several hit songs. Remembering the ace choreographer, Madhuri had shared on Twitter, “I’m devastated by the loss of my friend and guru, Saroj Khan. Will always be grateful for her work in helping me reach my full potential in dance. The world has lost an amazingly talented person. I will miss you💔 My sincere condolences to the family. #RIPSarojji”.
Abhishek Bachchan also reminisced how she had called the shots for his first ever song, referring to his debut film ‘Refugee’. “My first ever song was choreographed by Saroj ji. And then so many more. You taught me so much. I will miss you, Saroj ji. May you rest in peace,” Abhishek had posted on Twitter.
Popularly known as Masterji by Bollywood celebrities, Saroj Khan has choreographed some of the best numbers featuring Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit,
Kareena Kapoor Khan and
Kangana Ranaut to name a few. In a glorious career spanning over four decades, Saroj Khan had choreographed over 2,000 songs. The last song choreographed by Saroj Khan was ‘Tabaah Hogaye’ from ‘Kalank’, featuring Madhuri Dixit.
Saroj Khan had won three National Award and her most memorable songs were 'Dola Re Dol' from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Devdas', 'Ek Do Teen' from Madhuri Dixit-starrer 'Tezaab' and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer 'Ye Ishq Haaye' from 'Jab We Met'.
