Rati Agnihotri agrees to mediation in cruelty case against hubby

Actor Rati Agnihotri on Tuesday agreed to explore the mediation route to settle the domestic violence cases which she had lodged against her estranged husband Anil Virwani.

Actor Rati Agnihotri agreed to explore the mediation route to settle the domestic violence cases which she had lodged against her estranged husband Anil Virwani. Additional sessions judge V Joshi has scheduled the case for hearing on appointing a mediator in the matter on June 20. While Agnihotri was present in the court, Virwani, who had filed an anticipatory bail plea, was represented by his lawyer.

The court had suggested mediation since it was a domestic dispute," said M Deshmukh, counsel for the actor. “We respect and trust the court's suggestion and have, therefore, agreed to explore the possibility of mediation," added the lawyer. The sessions court has a panel of mediators, which includes retired judges and senior advocates. Once both parties agree on a mediator, they will have to work to resolve the case.

Agnihotri, who married Virwani in 1985, has alleged that her husband has constantly harassed and tortured her. The actor, on March 7, approached the Worli police and lodged a case against Virwani under the Domestic Violence Act. She showed abrasions on her hands, which she alleged were the result of beating by her husband.
