Preeti Jhangiani wins best actor award for 'Taawdo' at RIFF

For the first time a Rajasthani film 'Taawdo' won big, bagging Best Actress - Preeti Jhangiani and Best Music Director - Lalit Pandit.

The 3rd Rajasthan International Film Festival Awards held in Jaipur from 14th January 2017 - 18th January 2017, saw a large number of Italian and French films screened and awarded amongst Hindi and Marathi films as well, but for the first time a Rajasthani film 'Taawdo' won big, bagging Best Actress - Preeti Jhangiani and Best Music Director - Lalit Pandit. The film is directed by debut director Vijay Suthar and produced by Tejkaran Harsh.

The film received a standing ovation at its debut screening at RIFF on the 16th of January 2017 and Preeti Jhangiani's performance was largely said to be the best of her career so far and will be a redefining moment for her. The film is based on the caste system still prevalent in many parts of Rajasthan and traces one woman's journey, after the death of her husband , in managing to com-pletely wipe out the system of untouchables from her small village.
Preeti also participated in a panel discussion on Women empowerment and the changing role of women in films,where she spoke about the increasing viability of Women Oriented films in cinema today
The soul touching music of Lalit Pandit also was much applauded.
Preeti has released the following statement ' I was very apprehensive about accepting this role be-cause of the dexerity of the role and the fact that the film's locations were in the interiors of Raja-sthan but eventually took it up as a challenge and am glad it paid off now.I hope to champion more of such films in the future'.
