I haven’t experienced Delhi's Metro: Deepak Dobriyal
Actor Deepak Dobriyal, on his recent trip to Delhi, boasts about his Dilli knowledge, his college days spent here in Delhi and how he took to acting.
Deepak says Delhi has a particular smell. “Dilli ki ek smell haiped-paudhon ki, garmi mein umas ki smell – joh mujhe abhi tak yaad hai,” says he. Since he’s spent all of his student life in Delhi, he boasts that he knows it like the back of his hand – “Yahan ke kisi bhi road pe chhod do mujhe, aankh band kar ke bata dunga yeh Chandni Chowk hai ya South Delhi.”
Deepak moved to Mumbai for a career in acting some 10 years ago, but still has many memories of Delhi ‘alive in his heart’.

“Jab main Dilli shabd sunta hoon toh mujhe mere dost, cinema, mera ishq, meri struggle, NSD (National School of Drama) ka woh neem ka ped joh ab nahi hai, woh sab yaad aa jata hai,” he says, adding “Metro se main waaqif nahi hoon. When I was in Delhi, Metro construction was on. So even if I haven’t experienced the Delhi's Metro, I have experienced being stuck in a jam for hours because of its construction!”
Recalling how acting happened in his life, Deepak says, “After college, when all my friends planned to pursue journalism, I was confused about what to do. My father wanted me to go for a government job. By chance, one day, I went to Mandi House and watched a play there. I was very impressed. Mujhe laga theatre mein kuch toh baat hai, and I joined theatre. You can call it my life’s first turning point. After a few years, to explore better opportunities, I went to Mumbai and started doing films.”
