doweshowbellyad=0; A special bond: Akbar Asif, MF Husain, Haya Asif with her mother Kavita Asif (TOI Photo)Painting a birthday card exclusively for filmmaker K Asif’s grand-daughter Haya, MF Husain tells BT why this creation touches a chord in his heart. When filmmaker K Asif was making Mughal-e-Azam many decades ago, M F Husain was a young man, and the celebrated painter recalls, “K Asif was a great friend, he had asked me to create a beautiful set keeping the Mughal era in mind.
And we shared lovely moments brainstorming and creating it.”
Today, K Asif is no more, but his son Akbar Asif played host to Husain in London. Akbar is flush with the success of releasing the colour version of his father’s masterpiece in Pakistan recently, thereby breaking a four decade ban on Indian films in that country. Meeting Husain, who was an integral part of the original film, was a special moment for Akbar. "He is the greatest Indian painter and what could be more fortunate than my daughter's birthday bringing us together,” asks Akbar. His daughter Haya turns 18 on August 18, and to celebrate the occasion, Husain created a birthday card for her. This is the first time the great painter is doing something like this. “She is K Asif's granddaughter, and I had to make a special card for her,” Husain explains. “At her birthday party, I will be painting her image live.”Haya is naturally excited by this. “Hussainsaab is the most creative and imaginative painter today and it is an honour to have a birthday card created by him, it makes my 18th birthday extremely special,” she exclaims. Limited editions of this exclusive card done by Hussain are being sent to British royalty and other VVIPs for the grand celebration being held at the Dorchester, Park Lane, London, on the 18th. Haya’s birthday party will include performances by international artistes even while Husain is painting her image. “This will make it really memorable,” say Husain and Haya excitedly together.
