State govt to answer 728 questions during three-day assembly session

State govt to answer 728 questions during three-day assembly session
Panaji: The three-day budget session will commence on Monday, with chief minister Pramod Sawant presenting the state budget on March 26, the last day of the session. State govt will answer a total of 728 questions, including 180 starred questions.
State govt will introduce and pass 10 govt bills during the session.
During the first two days, there will be a discussion on the governor’s address in the House. Govt will introduce bills to amend the Private Universities Act and the Employment Exchanges (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act, and the Goa State Research Foundation (Amendment) Bill, 2025, on the first day, and other bills on Tuesday.
The opposition said that govt fears facing it on the floor of the House, and that is the reason the duration of the session has been limited to three days.
The bill to amend the Goa Private Universities Act, 2020, aims to make it mandatory for those interested in establishing a private university to own or possess on a lease, for at least a period of 30 years, land not less than 50,000sqm.
The amendment to the Employment Exchanges (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act will increase the fines against private companies if they fail to advertise vacancies in Goa. The amendment also seeks to gather information about jobs likely to be created in the next six months.
Leader of the opposition Yuri Alemao said the decision to summon an assembly session for only three days in March suggests that BJP is afraid to face the opposition. “It undermines the principles of democracy and erodes the rights of legislators. BJP’s dictatorial rule is also stifling the voices of activists by imprisoning them,” Alemao said.
The opposition now has to wait for the monsoon session to raise various pressing issues, including the jobs scam, the escape of Siddiqui from the crime branch custody and the Mhadei diversion.
Sawant had assured the opposition that he would call for a lengthy budget session of the assembly, during the business advisory committee meeting.
During the two-day winter session, held on Feb 6 and 7, govt answered 236 questions, including 46 starred questions.
