Two Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University employees caught in Rs 18,000 bribery case

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The anti-corruption bureau on Thursday caught two Class IV employees of the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University accepting a bribe of Rs 18,000 from a complainant in exchange for processing retirement dues of his mother.
The arrested men have been identified as Rupchand Mungse (54) and Deepak Roy (59), both peons in the university's administrative division.
Superintendent of police (anti-corruption bureau) Sandip Atole said the complainant, a 45-year-old man, approached the accused seeking assistance in getting a pending amount of Rs 3.6lakh related to his mother's 7th Pay Commission arrears. His mother had retired as a sanitation worker from Bamu.
The accused allegedly demanded Rs 18,000 to expedite the process and get the amount released through the office of the joint director, education department, Osmanpura. The man requested the accused not to take a bribe to get the work done for a former colleague, but in vain. He then reached out to the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) and lodged a complaint.
Acting on the complaint, ACB carried out the verification and found that Mungse and Roy had indeed sought a bribe. A trap was then set for the trwo men on the road opposite the Department of Foreign Languages on the university campus. The two accused reached the spot to collect the bribe amount.
ACB authorities said during the trap, Roy accepted the bribe amount in the presence of witnesses and was caught red-handed. Mungse was also detained soon after. The ACB teams seized their cellphones and a motorcycle key from Mungse. Their mobile phones were taken into custody for further forensic analysis.
The ACB initiated a search of Roy's residence, and the process of registering an FIR at the Begumpura police station is underway. ACB officials have urged people to report any instance of govt official or an intermediary demanding a bribe for rendering official services.
