UPPSC expands PCS 2024 recruitment vacancies from 220 to 947 posts

UPPSC expands PCS 2024 recruitment vacancies from 220 to 947 posts
Prayagraj: The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has significantly increased the number of vacancies under the Provincial Civil Services (PCS) 2024 recruitment, taking the total number of posts from 220 to 947.
This is probably the first time that the posts have been increased after preliminary examinations. The preliminary examination was conducted on Dec 22, 2024, and its results were declared in Feb 2025. The main examination is proposed on June 29, 2025.
The original recruitment advertisement was released on Jan 1, 2024, offering only 220 positions across multiple departments under the PCS-2024 banner. However, amid rising demand and possibly to address staffing gaps across various govt departments, the commission expanded the recruitment drive.
"The increase could be because of the fact that the advertisement came out in Jan 2024, and it has been over a year before the results of prelims were declared, hence the posts for a year could have been added," said a senior official of the commission.
Among the 947 posts now available, the maximum vacancies are for the post of Naib Tehsildar, totaling 258.
Following that, the recruitment includes 196 posts for assistant commissioner (commercial tax), 142 for commercial tax officer (state tax commissioner office), 72 for block development officer, 60 for deputy jailor in the prison administration and correctional services department, and 40 for deputy registrar in the registration department.
Despite the large number of openings, the most coveted roles — deputy collector and deputy superintendent of police (DSP)— remain highly limited. There are only 37 posts available for DC and 17 for DSP.
The drive also includes posts across a wide range of departments. These include 16 posts for assistant divisional transport officer, 22 for treasurer/accountant, two for district commandant home guards, one for superintendent jail, 18 for assistant commissioner of industries, and 23 for executive officer in the panchayati raj section. Additionally, there are vacancies for roles such as district social welfare officer, district minority welfare officer, district backward classes welfare officer, district food and marketing officer, assistant director industries (handloom), statistical officer in the agriculture department, management officer in the state property department, assistant controller in the legal metrology department, and district disabled empowerment officer.
The commission received a staggering 5,76,154 applications for PCS-2024. However, only 42% of applicants — approximately 2.42 lakh — appeared in the preliminary exam. After evaluation, 15,066 candidates were declared successful and are now eligible to appear in the main examination.
The expansion in vacancies has brought renewed hope to thousands of aspirants across the state and is being seen as a welcome step in the direction of strengthening administrative capacity in Uttar Pradesh.
