Elon Musk has got another backer of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Michael Dell, the founder, chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies, has thrown his weight behind the new department proposed by President-elect Donald Trump.
“We need @DOGE,” Dell said in a tweet in which shared a graph of the US government’s spending. The graph, titled, “U.S. Gov't Debt & Spending Vastly Outpace GDP Growth” showed “debt growth”.
He also posted an old post of Musk in which the SpaceX CEO and X owner shared a DOGE meme saying, “DOGE is inevitable.”
Musk reshared Dell’s post, saying: “Yes, if action is not taken to curb the deficit, America is in deep trouble. No different than a person who gets into too much debt.”
Musk's comment comes amid growing concerns about the ballooning US national debt – something which Musk has spoken a lot against. Reports suggest that economists and policymakers have expressed alarm about the long-term consequences of this unsustainable debt trajectory.
What is DOGE
DOGE is tasked with finding ways to make the US government more efficient by restructuring federal agencies, cutting unnecessary regulations, and reducing wasteful spending. The ultimate goal is to trim the federal budget and improve how the government operates.
It is not an official department as it would require approval from Congress, hence, it will likely function as an advisory body to the President. Reports have said that Elon Musk and
Vivek Ramaswamy will lead DOGE and would serve as outside volunteers, not official government employees.
