Rick Tocchet's future with the Vancouver Canucks has become increasingly perplexing. NHL historian Stan Fischler recently reported that Tocchet could be on his way to the Philadelphia Flyers rather than remaining in Vancouver or signing with the New York Rangers. With Rick Tocchet's rich history with Philadelphia and the Canucks presenting a large new contract, it all now hinges on his choice. Fans of both sides are awaiting Rick Tocchet's decision, as a large announcement should be coming very shortly.

Rick Tocchet's Philadelphia story could be getting a new chapter soon

Stan Fischler, a noted NHL historian, took to social media that Rick Tocchet will not be heading to the New York Rangers after all. Rather, Stan Fischler stated he "heard" Rick Tocchet is on his way to the Philadelphia Flyers. This is big news because Rick Tocchet has strong Philadelphia roots. He was drafted by the Flyers in 1983 and played 11 seasons there in two different spells. He even led the team to the 1985 Stanley Cup Final.

Rick Tocchet's connection to Philadelphia is solid, and their fans still have respect for him. With the Flyers liking Rick Tocchet, it would be fitting if he came back. The Canucks, in the meantime, have been attempting to retain him by presenting a more lucrative offer, but they have also stated that the decision is entirely Rick Tocchet’s. Everyone now is waiting to see if he returns to where his NHL career truly started.

Vancouver’s big offer and pressure to make a career-defining decision

Rick Tocchet’s situation in Vancouver has been shaky for a few weeks now. Canucks president Jim Rutherford said the team will not use their one-year option to automatically extend Rick Tocchet’s deal. However, they have offered him a new contract that would make him the highest-paid coach in Canucks history if he accepts it. That indicates how much Vancouver still holds him in esteem, even during a difficult year when the team failed to make the playoffs with a 38–30–14 record.
Rick Tocchet also had a tremendous year last season, getting the Canucks a Pacific Division championship and even capturing the Jack Adams Award as NHL Coach of the Year. Although he had a tougher year this year with injuries and internal issues, some still think he is the right coach for the Canucks. Rick Tocchet has indicated that he would like to remain, but with Philadelphia expressing high interest, it's a giant career decision. A decision is due imminently, and it might alter two different teams' futures.
