Tkachuk got a five-minute major penalty for interference during the Tampa Bay Lightning's Game 3 of the playoff series against the Florida Panthers on Sunday. Late in the third period of the 5-1 loss, the event transpired. Although fans had high hopes, the game was not the most physical among the NHL franchises, and as such, there was no hearing.

The penalty for interference came with under five minutes left in the game, sending Tkachuk to the locker room for the night, but the debate ensued. Just one game earlier, Tampa Bay's Brandon Hagel had earned a five-minute major for a similar infraction against Florida's Sasha Barkov. Hagel was subsequently suspended for a game by the NHL Department of Player Safety, but Barkov made it back for Game 3.
Next game finds Matthew Tkachuk healthy and not suspended, a timely boon for the Florida Panthers. Brandon Hagel returns to Tampa Bay, restoring some badly needed depth and physicality for the Lightning in this series.
In the wake of Tkachuk's hit on Guentzel, the league declined to assess any supplementary penalty against the Florida winger, as cited by two points: Guentzel had already played the puck, and Tkachuk's check did not involve head contact. NHL insider David Pagnotta pointed out that these were the reasons why the league didn't proceed with filing the case against Tkachuk.
Tkachuk, among the Panthers' postseason best, has tallied three goals and assisted on another in the series. Tkachuk, bringing typical aggression along with his game, once more wowed fans with the anticipation that more such will follow as the series approaches the seventh game.
For Tkachuk, the aggressive style of play has always been a signifier of his game, and while there might have been drama concerning the hit on Guentzel, it is definitely accepted that the Panthers are using him as an enforcer in their arsenal of propelling energy into the performance.
