All eyes were on Luka Dončić when he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, who took his place at the Dallas Mavericks in one of the biggest trades in the history of sports. But the Mavericks’ controlling owner, Jeanie Buss, has now opened up about trading Davis—a player she once never wanted to part with—and what led them to go through with it. She now wants to meet him one day but feels that she’ll have to be mindful of how she interacts with her teammate of six years, just in case someone assumes she is tampering.

Los Angeles Lakers owner on Anthony Davis’ trade

In an interview with SiriusXTM NBA Radio's Rob Perez, Los Angeles Lakers owner Jeanie Buss expressed her desire to have an interaction with him in person one day. She said, "I haven't seen him face-to-face, and I look forward to in the offseason. But you have to remember he's now under contract to under team; we've had too many instances of people accusing us of tampering, so I have to really be careful with stuff like that."
Further opening up about why they ultimately went ahead with the Davis-for-Doncic trade, Buss said, "Anthony Davis, we won a championship [with him]. Do you know how hard that was? We were not looking to trade Anthony Davis. Dallas contacted us. And [Davis] had been making it clear that he wasn't happy, that he was having to play the [center]. He wanted to play the [power forward]."

Anthony Davis penned a heartfelt note after he moved to the Dallas Mavericks. He wrote, “6 years ago, I came here with the vision to win a Championship, and I will never forget the moment we did! The business of basketball is a business just like all other businesses… I am grateful to the city where my first ring came from, grew my family and friendships and I will always have a home here. My family and I thank everyone who made this place home and we are still thinking of those that lost their homes in the fires.”
“To my teammates: our friendships go beyond a locker room and a jersey… LA will always have a special place in my heart. Every great story has an exciting next chapter… Dallas—Here we come!”
