In a nail-biting clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals in the first Super Over of IPL 2025. The game ebbed and flowed throughout, but it was Mitchell Starc’s brilliance that turned the tide in DC’s favour.

Chasing 189, Royals got off to a flier with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson adding 61 runs in under six overs. But disaster struck when Samson, after hitting a four and six in the sixth over, pulled up with a rib injury and walked off retired hurt. Riyan Parag couldn’t capitalise, falling cheaply, but Nitish Rana and Jaiswal kept the chase alive.

As the spinners applied the brakes, RR needed 73 off the final six overs. Rana fought valiantly but Starc returned to remove him with a searing inswinging yorker. With just 9 required off the final over, Starc was ice-cool, delivering perfect yorkers to take the game to a Super Over.

RR managed 11/2 in the Super Over, losing Parag and Jaiswal to run-outs. In response, Tristan Stubbs and KL Rahul chased down the 12-run target with ease against Sandeep Sharma, who erred with too many slower balls.

Rajasthan Royals were firmly in control for most of the match and looked poised for a comfortable win, but they'll be disappointed with how they let things slip by taking it too deep. Just when it looked like the game was slipping away, they dug deep, held their nerve, and clawed their way back to level the scores right at the end. Spears in another yorker at the stumps, Dhruv Jurel clips it all along the ground through mid-wicket and runs the first one hard. The skates are on for the second one as well, but Jurel slips a bit midway while rushing back for the second. Axar Patel throws it flat towards KL Rahul at the batting end, and the latter comfortably whips the bails off with Jurel out by a country mile.

Nails in a pinpoint yorker, with a considerable reverse movement into the batter. Nitish Rana is pinned on the crease and looks to whip it off across to the leg side, but plays all over it and the ball smashes right on his boot. A confident appeal and the umpire takes no time to raise his finger. Nitish Rana departs for 51 (28) and Rajasthan Royals are 161/3, needing another 28 runs to win, off 14 deliveries.

Strategic Break. This contest is poised nicely as with the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Delhi Capitals will look to clamp down the scoring rate in the next few overs. They have done well by conceding just a solitary boundary, after the halfway mark. As usual, the main man for DC, Kuldeep Yadav has kept things really tight from his end. A couple of more wickets here in quick succession will definitely peg RR on the back foot. Also, their problems against the spin have been evident this season. But, with potential hitters yet to come, and with eight wickets in the bank, they will look to charge on after the break. Here's Axar Patel back into the attack.
