On the full moon night (Purnima) of the Phalguna month, Holika Dahan, also called Chhoti Holi, will be celebrated with immnese devotion and faith. This festivals symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. The festival brings positivity, prosperity, and happiness into life and removes negativity, evil energies, and bad karma. Holika Dahan will be celebrated on Purnima Tithi in the month phalguna i.e., on March 13, 2025.

Holika Dahan 2025: Significance


Holika Dahan holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. This day dedicated to perform puja to Lord Vishnu and Bhakt Prahalad. Holika Dahan is based on the story of Prahlad and Holika, symbolizes the victory of justice and devotion over malevolent powers. While Holika, Bhakt Prahalad's evil aunt, died despite possessing a fire-resistant boon, Prahlad, a devotee of Lord Vishnu, was spared from the flames. This fire is a symbol of spiritual purification that eliminates negative energies, bad karma, evil energies and evil spirits. Holika Dahan puja is performed in the evening at the times of Pradosh Kaal in an auspicious Muhurat.

Holika Dahan 2025: Puja Rituals


1. For the bonfire, gather wood, dried cow dung cakes, coconut, wheat grains, mustard seeds, and camphor.
2. People specially women worship where the Holika is placed before fire
3. Light an oil lamp, or diya, close to the fire.
4. Offer rice, flowers, kumkum, and haldi (turmeric) on the fire.
5. Encircle the Holika with a sacred white thread which is known as Kaccha Soot.
6. The Fire Ritual and Holika Dahan Puja is performed during the Pradosh Kaal which is usually after sunset.
7. People go and present many offerings Chant the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra or "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" when the fire is lit.
8. For prosperity, throw sugar, coconut, wheat, and sesame seeds onto the fire.
9. Pray for protection from evil and fresh starts as you circle the fire three or seven times.
