In a dramatic development, BJP leader and former minister C P Yogeeshwara on Wednesday quit his party and joined the Congress, which is now expected to field him in the November 13 Assembly bypolls from Channapatna. UDF workers and supporters as well as members of the general public of all age groups, who were waiting since early morning, welcomed her carrying placards with Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi's photographs, balloons in the party colours and drum beats.

Balloons in the party colours of the Congress and its ally Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) also lined both sides of the nearly two kilometer long roadshow route.

The Mumbai police have restricted the number of persons entering the Returning Officer's (RO) cabin for submission of nomination to five for the upcoming assembly polls in Maharashtra, an official said. Also, only three vehicles of a candidate will be permitted in the 100 metres periphery of the RO's office, as per prohibitory orders issued on Tuesday under section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), he said.

The police also prohibited political campaign through slogans, rally, procession, singing of songs and use of musical instruments during the submission of nomination form, the order mentioned.

If two candidates of different political parties come at a time to submit their nomination forms, then nobody will indulge in a provocative act against each other, the official said.

The prohibitory orders will remain in force till November 4 in the Mumbai district and suburbs.

As the election date draws near, this protest gains significance, highlighting the growing discontent among citizens.

"I think now the common man has to come on the road and fight for his rights....," he said.

Maharashtra assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with the counting for all 288 assembly constituencies to be held on November 23.

CM Soren's younger brother, Basant is contesting from the Dumka seat.

Calling the list a 'dance of 'dynasty' the BJP spokesperson told ANI, "This is what is 'parivarvaad'. This is the dance of dynasty. We have also come to know that three members of the 'family' have been given tickets so far and one more member is in queue. When 3-4 members of the same family contest elections, they are candidates for posts from CM to ministers to MLAs - this is the dance of dynasty."

The BJP spokesperson further expressed that the JMM government will ousted from the state this time.

"Did they not have workers, that he (CM Hemant Soren) had to field his brother, his wife and another relative? I think they have sensed people's mood this time. People are going to oust them this time. I don't think Hemant Soren government is going to return to power this time," he added.

JMM party leader Manoj Pandey rubbished the BJP's charge and called the party's list a 'balanced list'.

"This is a balanced list. This was finalized after a lot of discussions and deliberations. I think all of them have the capability to win. JMM's strike rate this time will be 90%. We will certainly win 90% of the seats this time, if you add alliance numbers to that, we will have more than 60 of our MLAs this time," he told ANI.

Ahead of Priyanka Gandhi's nomination filing for Wayanad by-poll, BJP National Spokesperson CR Kesavan on Wednesday accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi of breaking his pledge and abandoning the people of Wayanad in Kerala following his decision to vacate the seat.

Priyanka Gandhi will file the nomination papers in the presence of her mother and Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, her brother and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress general secretary KC Venugopal and a host of other leaders.

The Wayanad seat was vacated by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi who retained the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha Constituency.

BJP's CR Kesavan told ANI, "For the INC, the 'Indira Nehru Congress', the people of Wayanad are like disposable curry leaves which they will use to enhance their dynastic 'Khichdi' and then they will mercilessly throw away this curry leaf... This by-election has been forced on Wayanad because Rahul Gandhi broke his pledge, betrayed his promise, and abandoned the people of Wayanad."

He further alleged that Rahul Gandhi betrayed the people of Wayanad by opting for the Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituency.

The BJP leader mentioned that Wayanad was hit by the worst-ever landslide in July. "It didn't have an MP. Wayanad had elected Rahul Gandhi...but he betrayed them by choosing Rae Bareli..."

NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule has taken a jibe at her cousin and Maharashtra Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar over his frequent visits to Delhi, saying she remembers her brother who did not like to go to the national capital. NCP head Ajit Pawar and his party leader Praful Patel visited New Delhi on Tuesday, ahead of the state assembly polls scheduled on November 20.

Asked about it, Sule, the daughter of NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, said, "I remember only one Ajit dada who never liked to go to Delhi."

"I do not know why he went to Delhi because I have not been in touch with him for months now and I would not be able to give an answer why he visited Delhi," the Lok Sabha member told reporters in Baramati on Tuesday.

Ajit Pawar on Tuesday said the ruling Mahayuti alliance, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has almost finalised its seat-sharing deal for the state assembly elections.

On his absence at the talks between leaders of BJP and Shiv Sena in Mumbai on Monday, he said, "There is no reason for me to be present at the meeting when the decision on some seats is to be taken between the BJP and Shiv Sena."

There has been no confirmation so far from any of the ruling alliance leaders on media reports that the BJP may contest 156 of the 288 seats, while Shiv Sena may fight on 78 seats and the NCP may get 54 seats to contest.

Maharashtra Assembly Elections Live Updates: Shinde to offer prayers at Guwahati's Kamakhya Devi Temple ahead of Maharashtra polls

Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday left for Assam's Guwahati, where he will offer prayers at the renowned Kamakhya Devi Temple, an aide said, a visit coming ahead of the high-stakes assembly elections scheduled for November 20. Shinde will offer prayers at the temple on Wednesday, said the aide.

Incidentally, Shinde had visited the same shrine in June 2022 along with 39 rebel MLAs of the undivided Shiv Sena when he raised a banner of revolt against the leadership of party president and then-Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The revolt not only dislodged the Uddhav Thackeray government but it also led to a vertical split in the Shiv Sena.

On June 30, 2022, Shinde took oath as the new chief minister with the BJP's support and visited the Kamakhya Devi Temple in November that year to seek blessings of the Goddess. Shinde, who heads the Shiv Sena, is visiting Guwahati for the second time as chief minister.

His party is yet to announce its candidates for the assembly polls. Shinde will face, perhaps, the most crucial assembly poll battle when Maharashtra votes on November 20 to elect a new 288-member house. The Shinde-led Sena heads the ruling coalition that also consists of the BJP and the NCP headed by deputy CM Ajit Pawar.

Priyanka Gandhi to file nomination for Wayanad LS bypoll; hold roadshow

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will mark her electoral debut by filing her nomination papers on Wednesday for the upcoming Lok Sabha bypoll in Wayanad. Priyanka arrived in the hill district on Tuesday night along with her mother, Congress Parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, reached the district subsequently. They will be accompanying Priyanka when she files her nomination papers before the District Collector.

Besides them, chief ministers of Congress-ruled states and senior AICC leaders will also be present as a show of support to Priyanka.

Priyanka, along with her brother Rahul Gandhi, will hold a roadshow at 11 AM in Kalpetta here before filing her nomination.

At 11.45 AM, after the roadshow, there will be a public address by her and thereafter, she will file her nomination, according to her itinerary.

She is pitted against LDF's Sathyan Mokeri and BJP's Navya Haridas.

The by-election for Wayanad LS seat became necessary after Rahul Gandhi, who won the Lok Sabha polls from there and Rae Bareli constituency, decided to vacate Wayanad.
