NEW DELHI: An unidentified terrorist was killed in an
encounter that broke out on Monday between security forces and terrorists in the Krumhoora-Zachaldara area of Handwara, in
Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
According to officials, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Krumhoora village following intelligence about the presence of terrorists.
The operation escalated into an encounter when the terrorists opened fire on security personnel. In the retaliatory exchange, one terrorist was killed, and arms and ammunition were recovered from the scene.
Authorities have yet to determine the identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorist.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police are assisting the security forces in the operation.
"Encounter has started at Krumhoora Zachaldara area of Handwara. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow," Kashmir Zone Police posted on X.
After an encounter in J&K's Kupwara leader of opposition Sunil Sharma stated that security forces would soon eliminate the remaining terrorists. He told that the forces are committed to their mission and will not rest until the threat is neutralised.
Jammu and Kashmir deputy CM Surinder Choudhary also addressed the situation, asserting that any attempts to destabilise India and the region would fail.
He called for maintaining peace and highlighted the strong sense of brotherhood in Jammu and Kashmir, warning that any actions against the country would not be tolerated.
