Sanjay Dutt, affectionately called ‘Baba,’ has faced many highs and lows in his career, including time in jail, big hits, and box office failures. He has experienced personal struggles just as much as his professional ones. In a recent interview, his sister Priya Dutt shared how he handled these challenges and stayed strong mentally and physically.
The Tragic Loss of Richa Sharma
In a recent appearance on the Vickey Lalwani podcast, Priya opened up about the personal challenges the Dutt family faced, including the heartbreaking cancer diagnosis of Sanjay Dutt’s first wife, Richa Sharma. She shared, “Richa’s brain tumour diagnosis and early death were particularly tough on Sanjay. But he’s a resilient person who always bounces back.” Sanjay and Richa married in 1987, but Richa passed away in 1996 after battling the tumour. They have a daughter, Trishala Dutt, who is a psychotherapist based in the US.

The Family’s Support During Sanjay’s Cancer Battle
Priya also shared how the family handled Sanjay's cancer diagnosis, highlighting that it came at a time when his career was experiencing a strong comeback with great movie offers. Despite the challenging situation, the family made important decisions, and Sanjay showed incredible strength. She emphasized the family's bond, where they respect each other's space during good times but unite in difficult moments.

Sanjay Dutt's Determined Approach to Cancer Treatment
She further revealed that Sanjay focused on completing his treatment quickly instead of dwelling on why it was happening to him. She mentioned that he insisted on not being treated like a patient, often going straight to his workout after chemotherapy sessions. His determination not to let anything hold him back was evident throughout his ordeal.

Sanjay Dutt has several upcoming projects, including Housefull 5 and The Bhootnii. The release date for The Bhootnii has been confirmed for May 1. The film features an exciting cast, including Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Singh, Mouni Roy, Palak Tiwari, and Aasif Khan.
