Vicky Kaushal's historical movie 'Chhaava' is riding on high success, but it has also found itself at the center of controversy. The film, which depicts the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has ignited discussions beyond the box office, and cinema screens sparking political and social debates in Maharashtra. 'Chhaava' has been linked to the recent violence in Nagpur, drawing reactions from political leaders.

While the film celebrates the legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, it has also stirred controversy. As reported by ANI, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, stated that 'Chhaava' had sparked people’s anger against Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, which allegedly contributed to the recent riots in Nagpur. He said during the legislative assembly, "'Chhaava' has ignited people’s anger against Aurangzeb. Still, everyone must keep Maharashtra peaceful," Fadnavis added, adding that the riots seemed pre-planned. Following the violence, more than 50 people have been taken into custody, and multiple FIRs have been registered, according to police commissioner Ravinder Singal.

Meanwhile, as per PTI, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had also commented on the matter, stating, "Such a brutal incident has never occurred before. The protesters are fighting for the pride of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Those who support Aurangzeb should read history and watch the movie 'Chhaava'."
Since its release on 14 February 2025, 'Chhaava' has emerged as a massive commercial success. The film crossed the Rs 500 crore mark in India within just 23 days of its release, making it the first Bollywood film of the year to achieve this feat. Vicky, in the titular role, has received widespread acclaim for his performance, further solidifying his position as one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars. Reacting to the film’s success, Kaushal expressed his gratitude on social, stating, "Thank you for your immense love."
