Khalid Abdalla, known for playing Dodi Fayed in The Crown, has shared that he has been asked to attend a police interview regarding his involvement in a pro-Palestinian protest that took place in January.
In an Instagram post, the 44-year-old actor revealed that he had received a letter from the Metropolitan Police on Thursday, requesting him to attend an interview. He also mentioned that he was not the only one being asked to do so. Among those who received similar letters was Stephen Kapos, an 87-year-old Holocaust survivor.
According to Sky News, the investigation is linked to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign protest that was held on Whitehall on January 18. Abdalla stated that it was still unclear whether he or others involved would be formally charged.
In his social media post, the actor expressed his concern over what he described as an attack on the "right to protest" in the UK. He urged people to stand up in defense of this right, saying it was something that needed to be protected. However, due to legal reasons, he mentioned that he would not be making any further comments on the matter.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed that as part of an ongoing investigation into possible violations of the Public Order Act on January 18, eight more individuals had been invited for interviews under caution at a police station. While the spokesperson acknowledged that some names had been publicly linked to the investigation, they clarified that the police do not confirm the identity of anyone under investigation.
Abdalla, who was born in the UK to Egyptian parents, has been actively involved in pro-Palestinian demonstrations. He has also used social media to express his views, including urging Western countries to stop supplying weapons to Israel.
