Avijit Sen’s Tonic and Arindam Sil’s Mahananda will be screened at the 53rd International Film Festival of India 2022 in the Indian Panorama segment. This year the festival is scheduled to be held from November 20 to 28in Goa.
Tonic, starring Dev and
Paran Bandopadhyay, garnered praises for its simple and heartwarming storytelling. The film tells the story of an ageing couple who experience adventure and bliss on their vacation, with the help of an exuberant travel agent named Tonic.
Mahananda, starring Gargee Roychowdhury, follows a young PhD student who wants to pursue research on the life and works of writer and activist Mahasweta Devi (Roychowdhury)
“I am very happy and thank the jury members for selecting Mahananda,” shares RoyChowdhury, the lead of the film.
“For a director, this is a big platform and a prestigious moment to get selected out of 354 films for the Panorama. I am also incredibly happy for Dev and his team as Tonic has made it to the top five selection in mainstream cinema," says Arindam Sil, the director of Mahananda.
The aim of the Indian Panorama, organised by the National Film Development Corporation, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, is to select feature and non-feature films of cinematic, thematic, and aesthetic excellence in accordance with the conditions and procedure in the said regulations of Indian Panorama.
