NEW DELHI: The driver of a container truck sustained serious injuries after his vehicle collided with a goods train at the Ayodhya-Rae Bareli railway crossing in Amethi district, police said on Tuesday.
The collision's force severely damaged both the truck and the goods train's front section, with officials confirming that train services were suspended due to damage to the track and electrical infrastructure.
Northern Railways' Lucknow Division's Divisional Railway Manager, Sachinder Mohan Sharma, confirmed that repairs to the railway line were underway and service would resume shortly.
The accident occurred at approximately 2.30 am at the Ayodhya-Rae Bareli railway crossing along the Lucknow-Varanasi-via-Sultanpur route, when the level crossing gates were found open.
Police reported that the gateman was absent when the speeding goods train struck the truck as it crossed the tracks.
Police confirmed that the truck driver, Sonu Chaudhary (28), was initially taken to Jagdishpur's community health centre before being transferred to the district hospital in critical condition. His condition has since stabilised.
