Vadodara car crash victims' lawyer slams police for letting accused 'give statement' to media while in custody

Vadodara accident has led to the death of a woman and critical injuries to her husband and three others. The accused Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia is in judicial custody. Investigation is ongoing, with evidence being collected to ascertain the full account of the incident. Chaurasia denied being intoxicated and blamed the presence of a pothole for the accident.

NEW DELHI: Vadodara accident victim's legal representative, Yogesh Rana, confirmed the submission of a Vakalatnama against the accused Rakshit Ravish Chaurasi, who has been placed in judicial custody following court orders on Monday.

"We have filed Vakalatnama, they (accused Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia) have not filed any bail application...investigation officer presented him before the court and court has sent the accused to judicial custody," the lawyer said on Monday.
"This is a serious matter, a woman has died, and her husband is in critical condition. Three people who were travelling in the other scooty, 2 of them are children and the woman who was with them, is also critical...in Police custody, the accused got to give a statement (to the media) this shows the negligence of the Police," he further stated.

The incident on March 14 resulted in one fatality and four injuries when a speeding vehicle collided with a two-wheeler.
Vadodara Police Commissioner Narasimha Komar confirmed the accused driver's detention and noted that the incident involved multiple vehicles.
The Commissioner stated that investigators are collecting evidence and monitoring the movements of both the driver and the passenger.
"The teams are recovering the evidence from the scene of the crime. Police are tracking the entire movement of the driver and co-passenger of the four-wheeler...The person driving the four-wheeler is in police custody, and police have been successful in tracking the movement of the co-passenger...Further investigation is underway," he stated.
Although authorities registered a drink-driving case, the accused Rakshit Ravish Chaurasia denied being intoxicated during the incident.
"We were going ahead of the scooty, we were turning right, and there was a pothole on the road. There was a scooty and a car while we were turning right... The car slightly touched the other vehicle and the airbag opened suddenly, our vision was hampered and the car went out of control", Chaurasia explained.
