Ponda: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has warned 1,500 units to manage their sewage within the next 15 days or they would stand to lose their water connections.
PMC chief officer Yogiraj Gosavi said he has sent notices to 88 buildings having a total 1,600 units, including residential flats, bungalows, and hotel and restaurants.
Gosavi said the court has also taken cognizance of nullah pollution and has directed the municipality to enforce measures to control the pollution of natural water bodies.
The chief officer also said that the sewage corporation has told the court that the Ponda sewage treatment plant at Kapileshwari is functional but people are reluctant to get sewerage connections.
“Accordingly, we have been motivating the residents in our jurisdiction to get the sewerage connections, so that the Ponda nullah will be pollution-free,” Gosavi told
TOI.
Despite all our efforts, people continue to release sewage in the storm water drain which flows into the nullah, he said.
The chief officer said that following the instructions, the water division has already snapped 15 water connections and told the violators to apply for sewerage connections to restore their water connections.
