Customs officials at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru are currently putting in overtime. Two recent arrests for smuggling in gold have rattled the city’s composure. While Kannada actress Ranya Rao had allegedly strapped gold bars to her thighs, a visually impaired passenger had concealed gold jewellery inside his shirt. Usually, it is Maharashtra, Kerala and Tamil Nadu who grab infamy with such cases. But now namma Bengaluru is also in the news for contraband. Smuggling gold, all of a sudden, seems a lucrative pan-Indian career option.
