When India was a free bird, of glow and gleam

Came Britain to rule with their red coats’ team

They started off innocent, pretending to be guests

And then grew with power; request to behest

They let the gold be smuggled back to Britain

Little did we know we were about, to be smitten

They crowded all of us to hidden places

They made us slaves and categorized us into races

They breathed down our neck every time

We worked for them around clock and chime

We were forced to do unlawful things

Biting our sacred cow; it really stings

Our motherland was robbed by these merciless brutes

Then a spark came, to send the Britishers out the chutes

We roused a war against all of them

Fought and slashed in a vain attempt

Their reign was strong, many people died within

But the little hopes came with Mangal Panday to begin

The freedom fighters did all they could

To free our land for our very own good

So let us always give them respect and honour

For Mother India is finally free from her collar!
