Decades-long terror crisis cost Afghanistan 50% of GDP

Afghanistan has witnessed 20 years of turmoil because of which it is the country suffering the most economic losses from terrorism

Recent developments in Afghanistan have brought attention back to long-standing conflicts and the impact such prolonged problems leave nations in. Globally, tens of countries continue to be affected by terrorism which has affected peace and economies, and Afghanistan has been among the worst-affected for many years now.
TOI looks at two data sets — the Global Terrorism Index-2020 and the Global Peace Index-2021 — brought out by the Institute for Economics and Peace. Both reiterate that Afghanistan’s problems pre-date the shock waves sent by the Taliban takeover in the past few days.
