PRAGUE: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Prague on Sunday for talks with his Czech counterpart as his country keeps battling a Russian invasion, the Czech presidential office said.
The Czech news agency CTK said a plane carrying Zelenskyy and his wife Olena landed in Prague before midday (1000 GMT). Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky posted a picture on X of him welcoming Zelenskyy with a handshake.
The office of Czech President Petr Pavel said on its website that he would receive the Ukrainian first couple at Prague Castle on Sunday afternoon.
An EU and Nato member of 11 million people, the Czech Republic has provided Ukraine with hefty humanitarian and military support since it was invaded by Russia in February 2022.
It has received over half a million of war refugees and supplied the Ukrainian army with equipment including tanks, armoured vehicles and helicopters.
Prague also backs a European drive to supply artillery ammunition to Ukraine, financed largely by Nato allies, which makes up in part for the EU's failure to meet its promise to supply one million shells to Ukraine.
Pavel, a former Nato general, previously received Zelenskyy in Prague in 2023.
The latest visit was taking place under stringent security measures with no details on timings disclosed.
