The awaited conclusion of 'Newtopia,' starring BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Park Jung Min, has left viewers on the edge of their seats. The mini-series wrapped up its story with a pulse-pounding eighth episode, which aired on March 21. This series is a full package of high-stakes action, emotional reunions, and an eerie supernatural twist, the finale gave fans a thrilling yet bittersweet sendoff.
Kang Young Joo (Jisoo) remains on the run, desperately evading a group of armed men who believe she may be infected. Just when things seem hopeless, she encounters Park Eun Chae (played by Lee Cho Hee), a mysterious Seoul Station worker who leads her to safety. Young Joo can contact her mother, who instructs her on an escape route and promises to join her soon.
Meanwhile, Lee Jae Yun (Park Jung Min) uses his intelligence and resourcefulness to ensure the survival of his uninfected teammates. After successfully getting them out of danger, he learns from Young Joo’s mother about her whereabouts. Without hesitation, he sets out to find her, and in a dramatic moment, rescues her just in time. Their long-awaited reunion is deeply emotional, yet their troubles are far from over.
As they prepare to escape, Jae Yun’s team arrives to assist, seemingly securing their survival. However, an unsettling twist follows—when Young Joo searches for Park Eun Chae to thank her, she makes a chilling discovery. Eun Chae had reportedly died 10 hours earlier, raising the question of who—or what—had actually helped her. As reported by Maeil Business Newspaper, this eerie revelation adds a supernatural layer to the already tense finale.
While most of Jae Yun’s team manages to flee the infested building, their leader, Kim Yeong Man (Kim Sang Heun), is not so fortunate. As the zombie infection takes hold of him, he gives his final order, urging his teammates to make it home alive. The moment is gut-wrenching, even causing the normally tough and rebellious Hwang Gyeong Sik (Kim Jung Jin) to break down in tears.
As the rest of the group departs, Hwang Gyeong Sik chooses to stay behind, making the painful decision to end Yeong Man’s suffering before he turns into a full-fledged zombie. Meanwhile, the team does everything in its power to delay Aaron Park’s (Kim Jun Han) transformation, demonstrating their loyalty and unwavering bond until the very end.
With its mix of action, horror, and deeply emotional character moments, Newtopia delivered a finale that was both haunting and unforgettable. The fans are left with lingering questions about Park Eun Chae’s true identity and the fate of the remaining survivors, making it a show that will be remembered long after its final episode.
