'Delhi Crime 2' is all that the series enthusiasts are talking about on social media since the episodes started streaming on Friday. The show has received positive reviews from critics and audience alike, and fans cannot stop praising
Shefali Shah,
Rajesh Tailang, Tilottama Shome and
Rasika Dugal for their stellar performances. However, a section of the audience was also taken aback by the graphic depiction of violence in the show.
In a recent interview, director
Tanuj Chopra explained the rationale behind the tonality.
While season one refrained from recreating scenes of the infamous 2012 Delhi gang rape case, it was still lauded by critics for maintaining sensitivity and yet conveying the brutality of the crime. Season two however shows graphic details of victims of crime of the 'kachchha banyaan' gang. Speaking about the same with HT, Tanuj said that the audience already knew all of it in season one. Whereas this time, they had the added responsibility to ground the audience in the crime. As the kachccha banyaan gang operated decades ago, most viewers may not be familiar with the brutality, he added. "So in order to make them feel for the victims, we had to show the severity of it all,” the report quoted him.
'Delhi Crime 2' also stars Adil Hussain, Gopal Dutt, Sidharth Bhardwaj, Denzil Smith, Yashaswini Dayama in key roles. The five-episode series premiered on August 26.
