In the time and age where the audience has ample content options to choose from, ‘Yellowstone’ managed to earn a loyal fan base. Though part 2 of ‘Yellowstone Season 5’ came after a long break of two hours, the loyalty of the fanbase didn’t change. However, a recent twist in the plot hasn’t gone down well with the audience. The way Kevin Costner’s character John Dutton has met its master, it has not been liked by the fans at all.
As the episode begins, Beth and Kayce Dutton, played by Kelly Reilly and Luke Grimes discover that John Dutton has been shot and killed. It appears to be a suicide with an air of mystery around it.
Taking to social media handles, many fans have expressed their disappointment. "Can I sue the producers of Yellowstone for permanent emotional damage 30 seconds into this episode?," wrote a fan, “Honestly show creator missed the audience mark on this one by a million miles,” commented another.
"I don't even want to finish the show anymore," read another post. "John Dutton was a fantastic character, and despite the Kevin Costner drama, he deserved a better goodbye than Yellowstone gave him," wrote an X user.
Reacting to the same, Kevin Costner in his conversation with E! Said that fans have their own voice and they say in choosing what they want to follow. He shared that he pitched two different endings for his character to the creator Taylor Sheridan. He said that he did reach out with different endings a while back, but it was ultimately in the hand of the producer how to move ahead. They decided that John would meet his maker via a gunshot wound.
“They do what they want to do,” he said. “That’s fine with me,” he added.
Earlier, taking to his social media handle, Kelvin Costner announced his exit from ‘Yellowstone.’ In a heartfelt post he wrote - “I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all the things that’s required, and thinking about ‘Yellowstone,’ that beloved series that I love, that I know you love.I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5b or into the future.”
