The Season 3 finale of 'Yellowjackets,’ titled ‘Full Circle,’ delivered powerful moments and major answers while also setting the stage for more twists in the lives of the surviving characters. Co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson opened up about the episode's key revelations and what lies ahead for the group.
Mysteries finally answeredNickerson, the director, and the finale's designers referred to it as having a "spiritual symmetry," during a conversation with Deadline. It connected back to the first episode of 2021, bringing the story full circle. Viewers discovered for the first time that Teen Shauna is the mysterious 'Antler Queen' and Mari is the 'Pit Girl.' "It was really fun and really challenging" to solve those long-standing mysteries and advance the plot, Nickerson said.
A shocking truthA manipulated hunt resulted from growing tensions among the stranded teenagers in the 1990s timeline. Mari tragically died, and there was another disturbing instance of cannibalism when Teen Shauna intervened to alter the course of events. Misty discovered a startling truth in the current plot: Adult Lottie's death was caused by Shauna's daughter, Callie. Shauna experienced a personal crisis as a result, and Callie and her father, Jeff, fled.
Lyle asked, "How much is she like her mother?" about Callie's decisions. Does nature trump nurture? We find it fascinating to watch Callie develop her own identity. Shauna reflected deeply on the moment. It was about "grief but also recognizing who she is," Lyle clarified.
A ray of hopeTeen Natalie called home at the end of the finale, expressing hope for help. "We've always felt part of the story needs to be told after their return, but we don't know when we'll get there," Nickerson cautioned.
The creators reassure viewers that the ‘Yellowjackets' journey is far from over as Season 3 comes to a close. Their survival story goes on with more emotional discoveries, past disputes, and upcoming difficulties.
