Amazon Prime Video has announced that The Summer I Turned Pretty will come to an end with its third season. The news was shared on Friday, confirming that while Season 3 had already been announced, it was not previously known that it would be the show’s final season.
Amazon stated that the last season is set to premiere in July, though an exact release date has not been confirmed. The final season will be longer than the previous ones, consisting of 11 episodes.
The decision to conclude the series at this point is not surprising, as the show is based on Jenny Han’s book trilogy of the same name. Each season has followed the storyline of one book in the series, making a three-season run a natural conclusion. The show originally premiered in 2022, followed by a second season in 2023.
The Summer I Turned Pretty is described as a coming-of-age drama that focuses on a love triangle involving a girl and two brothers. It also explores themes of family relationships, female friendships, and the emotions tied to first love and heartbreak, all set against the backdrop of a memorable summer.
Lola Tung stars as the lead character, along with a cast that includes Jackie Chung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Rachel Blanchard, Sean Kaufman, Rain Spencer, and others.
Jenny Han serves as a co-showrunner alongside Sarah Kucserka. Both of them also executive produce the series, along with Karen Rosenfelt, Paul Lee, Hope Hartman, and Mads Hansen for the production company wiip. The show is a collaboration between Amazon Studios and wiip.
Han’s books have been popular for screen adaptations before. Her To All the Boys trilogy was turned into a successful film series on Netflix. She is also an executive producer of XO, Kitty, a To All the Boys spinoff starring Anna Cathcart, which was recently renewed for its own third season.
With the upcoming season set to conclude Belly’s story, fans of the series can look forward to a final chapter that ties up the love triangle and emotional journey that began in Season 1.
