Tricked Into War: How Indian Youths Ended Up Fighting — And Dying — In Russia | I Witness

Last year, over a dozen youngsters from Uttar Pradesh went to Russia in the hope of finding jobs as security guards. Instead of finding the kind of employment they were expecting, they ended up being deployed to the Russian border with Ukraine as military helpers for the Russian army. After hoodwinking them, the Indian agents in Russia who set them up have allegedly walked away with all their money and their families have received little or no financial help. Worse, their families have no idea where they are now and in what state they are in. Most of them last spoke to them more than 9 months ago and have regularly followed up with the Indian government for updates and help to get their sons back home.
