Australia: Flood threat moves north as Sydney area emergency eases

Residents of parts of Australia's state of New South Wales, that have been hit by heavy rains and flooding, are hoping the worst is over.Floodwaters were receding in Sydney and its surrounding area Thursday, but heavy rain threatened to inundate towns north of Australia's largest city. Evacuation orders and official warnings to prepare to abandon homes were given to 60,000 people by Thursday, down from 85,000 on Wednesday. New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet on Thursday helped clear mud and debris from a restaurant which had been impacted by recent flooding. Perrottet and Minister for Emergency Services Steph Cook were cleaning up the restaurant in Camden, located south-west of Sydney.
