Ramanathan Sarathkumar and wife Radhikaa sentenced to one-year imprisonment in cheque bounce case

Actors cum politicians Ramanathan Sarathkumar and his wife Radhika Sarathkumar have been sentenced to one-year imprisonment by a special court that inquires cases related to MPs and MLAs. This is in connection with seven cases filed against Sarathkumar and two against Radhika regarding failure to repay loans. It is said that in 2015 Radhika and Sarathkumar's production company procured loans from Radiant Group and produced the movie 'Idhu Enna Maayam' directed by A.L. Vijay and starring Vikram Prabhu and Keerthy Suresh in the lead roles. The couple allegedly did not repay the loans and the cheques they gave as security bounced. The Radiant Group then approached the court in 2018 and after inquiries, for almost four years the jail sentence has been ordered. According to a report, post the court's order, the couple has now moved a special court seeking suspension of the one-year imprisonment sentence. Coming to his work front, Sarathkumar started his acting career in 1986 with the Telugu film 'Samajamlo Sthree'. He first featured in negative roles then he mostly played supporting roles. In subsequent years, he established himself as a lead actor. Since the '90s, the actor has been closely related to state politics and he was quite close to All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader Jayalalithaa. In 1996, he officially entered politics and joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Later, in 2007, he launched his own political party called All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi. While, on the personal front, the actor has two kids, Varalaxmi and Pooja, from his first wife Chaya. After getting divorced from his first wife, he tied the knot with actress Radikaa in the year 2001. The couple has a son named Rahul.
