Ranjani Raghavan turns scriptwriter and creative director with her new venture

Ranjani Raghavan turns scriptwriter and creative director with her new venture
After wowing audiences and garnering a sizeable fan following with her turnout in Putta Gowri, Ranjani Raghavan called it quits from the serial a while ago. And just when viewers were wondering what Ranjani was upto in the interim, here’s an update. The actor has decided to add a new dimension to her career and is turning creative director with her upcoming venture for which she has also written the script.
“Writing has always been one of my biggest passions. Whenever I used to get a new idea, I’d write it down. Gradually, the ideas became more elaborate and I started developing it into a story,” she tells us. Soon after her previous serial wrapped up, Ranjani plunged deep into penning a full-fledged script. “It’s a romantic tale and is titled Ishta Devethe. The plot revolves around the relationship between the hero, who is a believer and an extremely religious man, and the heroine, who is an atheist,” she tells us. As the creative director of the show, Ranjani has also had a day in the cast and reveals that Shrimahadev (Shrirastu Shubhamastu and Iruvudellava Bittu fame) and Rashi (who is slated to debut soon in the film Raandhawa) will be playing the lead pair.
Currently, the trend on Kannada television is of scheming and devious family members and atthe-sose politics. Where does a romantic tale fit into this scheme of things? “It’s probably the first time on Kannada TV that the subject of atheism is being dealt with in depth and that, too where the leading lady professes such a strong stance. Of course, to be relevant to the audience, we have to resort to some time-tested cliches,” concurs Ranjani. As for acting, it will have to be kept aside for a while. “This is a new dimension for me and for the past few months I’ve spent many waking moments wondering what to do because I got so many lucrative and exciting acting offers. But I decided to try my hand at something new and am set with ideas for at least 200 episodes. It’s not like I’ve bid adieu to acting; it’s just that I’d like to soak in the experience of this new addition for some time,” she wraps up.
