Aniruddha Jatkar is spending his time in lockdown working on the final touches of his mother-in-law, veteran actress
Bharathi Vishnuvardhan’s documentary, Baale Bangara. In a live chat with us, he opens up about directing the anticipated documentary, the status of the
Vishnuvardhan memorial and how he relates to his character, Aryavardhan...
How does it feel to be instantly recognised as Aryavardhan from the serial Jothe Jotheyalli? The love I am getting from people even in villages humbles me.
It’s been six months since the serial went on air. The success is because of the blessings of people and their wishes.
How much do you relate to the character? I love the way he carries himself in tough situations. The morals he has, the social work and emotions he carries is very close to my heart. Except the romantic angle (he laughs), my character is similar to Aryavardhan's.
Which medium do you prefer — TV or films? Both have their own pros and cons. A film’s duration is less, so the actor doesn’t get an opportunity to showcase his talent completely. But in serials, because of long-running episodes, actors get opportunities to showcase their acting prowess. Also, the reach of television is wider. If a movie becomes a hit, in a family, one or two persons might have watched it. But serials like Jothe Jotheyalli have reached out to everyone.
So, you have been working on the documentary about Bharathi Vishnuvardhan. Tell us more...It is an honour to direct the documentary of such a stalwart in filmdom. It is called Baale Bangaara. It was a huge task to direct the documentary, as I needed to collect photographs and information from her childhood, school and college days. I even met the principal of her college to learn about her and got to know about her life after she married the late matinee idol Vishnuvardhan. The documentary traces her journey in films — she has acted in six different languages. Her getting a Padma Shri, which is a major achievement in her glorious career, is also being showcased in the documentary.
What about the Vishnuvardhan memorial? It will come up in Mysuru. Since the government is also involved in the work, we need to follow procedures. The tender will be issued as soon as the lockdown is lifted.
You are gearing up for direction...Yes, I have penned two scripts. I watch the best of world and Indian cinema whenever I get time. It is my passion and hobby. Direction has been at the back of my mind for a long time. I will direct when the right time comes.
