Mahabharat, the legendary mythological show, is one of the most popular series on Indian television and has a particular place in viewers' hearts. The audience adored and appreciated the gorgeous rendition of the Mahabharat, which had a strong cast. The show just celebrated its tenth anniversary, and
Pooja Sharma, who played Draupadi, offered a dramatic behind-the-scenes look at filming the legendary Cheer Haran scene.
During a recent roundtable discussion celebrating the 10th anniversary of Mahabharat, actor Pooja Sharma described how the fire broke out on the sets. Pooja quipped, "There was a specific spot in the Sabha from where Draupadi’s dupatta was meant to appear. During the shoot, a transformer placed there suddenly burst into flames—twice."
For those who may have forgotten, Cheer Haran was a critical scene in the Mahabharata in which Lord Krishna miraculously expanded Draupadi's sari to protect her. This scene remains one of the most emotionally intense in the series.
Unexpected situations on set heightened the stress throughout the scene's filming. Just as the camera documented Krishna's heavenly intervention, an unexpected event occurred: the transformer on set failed, resulting in two huge explosions that started a fire.
The blasts heightened the already intense mood, bringing actual and metaphorical flames to a scene already charged with deep emotional and spiritual meaning.
Pooja revealed she felt a divine connection, she shared, "Throughout the entire filming of Mahabharat, I had never witnessed anything like this. It was as if an unseen, divine energy made its presence known, and in that moment, I felt a profound connection to something beyond the physical realm."
The revelation came after Pooja Sharma stated that the Cheer Haran scene was the most memorable part for her during the Mahabharat filming.
Shaheer Sheikh: I feel like the luckiest man of the century as I got to play Arjun in Mahabharat
Arav Chowdhary and Shaheer Sheikh both agreed with Pooja, claiming that there was divine intervention while filming the episode. Arav, who played Bhishma Pitamaha, expressed gratitude to Lord Krishna for allowing them to shoot the program in some locales despite adverse weather circumstances. Arav even admitted to filming the event in an extreme storm.
