The latest episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 featured 23-year-old Mitrabha Guha from Kolkata, West Bengal, who is India's 72nd Chess Grandmaster. The show aired a short video about Mitrabha's journey, where his parents shared how a relative gifted him a large wooden chess set on his first birthday—an event that became a turning point in his life.
Mitrabha’s father introduced him to chess when he was just two and a half years old. At the age of four, his father attempted to enroll him in a chess academy, but the institution only accepted students aged six and above. However, after witnessing his remarkable skills, the coach made an exception and admitted him.
Mitrabha began competing in championships in 2004 and quickly set numerous records. Due to financial constraints, he embarked on his first international tour only in 2018. He revealed that when he traveled to Spain for a championship, his mother took a gold loan to fund his trip. He credits his success to his parents.

In response, Amitabh Bachchan criticized those who took the Kohinoor from India, expressing his disapproval of the historical stealing of the valuable gem.
He says, "Sabko chura kar le jaate hain humara gehna, humko bura lagta hai, chura ke le gaye lekin abhi wapas nahi kiya. Milna chahiye na wapas, humara kohinoor wapas do yaar."
After answering questions correctly one after the other, Mitrabha took home Rs 3,20,000.
