There is no dearth of actors who start their career with films, move on to television and then, venture back to the small screen. Rakesh Bapat is an actor whose story is similiar to this. Starting his career with the film Tum Bin, he became a familiar face on television with Saat Phere. But now, it seems like the actor is tired of it.
“I think Saat Phere is my first and last serial. I really don’t think I can cope with television anymore,” says Rakesh. It’s not that Rakesh is not grateful for the popularity the show has given him but he after working in a serial for so long, he believes that he’s not growing as an actor. “When you go on the set, you put on your clothes and make-up, mouth the dialogues and shoot 10-12 scenes a day. It does not do anything for your creative aspect,” he adds.
Rakesh says that he needs time to improvise himself. So does that mean he will not do the show anymore? “Saat Phere is my baby on TV and close to my heart. The unit people have become like my family. Given an option, I would continue with the show only because of that,” he says. And what about other shows? “No, I have been offered other shows but I can’t cope with a daily anymore,” he says.
At the moment, Rakesh’s sight is set on Bollywood once more. “Back and forth from TV and films and vice-versa keeps happening. For actor these days, the sky is the limit. Look at Amitabh Bachchan, he’s still a star at 60. It’s all about revamping yourself,” says Rakesh. So are there any interesting offers in his kitty? “Yes but I would rather not talk about them. I’m waiting in the wings. Who knows, I might come back with a bang!” he concludes.
