Mike Pence, born as Michael Richard Pence, is an American politician and lawyer. He was the 48th Vice President of the United States under President Trump. Prior to this he served as the 50th Governor of Indiana from 2013 to 2017.


On November 8, 2016, he was elected as Vice President, after he dropped out of his gubernatorial re-election campaign in July to become the vice presidential running mate for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, who later on became the President of the country.

Pence lost his bid for re-election in the 2020 Presidential election to Kamala Harris, although Trump refused to concede, made false or unproven allegations of election fraud. After this Trump, in order to overturn the election results, on January 6, 2021, an attack on the US Capitol took place.

After the 2021 incident, Pence distanced himself from Trump by standing against him in the upcoming 2024 Presidential election.

Pence has been involved in a number of high-profile controversies, including with his signature of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, for which he encountered fierce resistance from moderate members of his party, the business community, and LGBT advocates.

He also supports a nationwide ban on abortion, as opposed to the state-by-state approach adopted after the Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade last year.
