Elon Musk has responded to claims that a Starlink internet gadget was used in Manipur after security forces recovered a cache of arms, ammunition and devices in joint search operations in various regions in the state. Musk, who is CEO of SpaceX – the parent company of Starlink, termed the claims as “false”.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Dimapur-based Spear Corps posted photos of the items recovered that included an internet device with a logo that looked like Starlink’s logo and featured inscriptions of RPF/PLA – acronyms for Revolutionary People's Front and People's Liberation Army in the state.
Incidentally, Spear Corps’ post did not specifically name the device to be of Starlink, but an X user highlighted the logo of the space company on the device in the photo shared.
“Acting on specific intelligence, troops of #IndianArmy and #AssamRifles formations under #SpearCorps carried out joint search operations in the hill and valley regions in the districts of Churachandpur, Chandel, Imphal East and Kagpokpi in #Manipur, in close coordination with @manipur_police and other security forces and recovered 29 weapons comprising of snipers, automatic weapons, rifles, pistols, country made mortars, single barrel rifles, grenades, ammunition and war like stores,” read the Spear Corps post.

“😯 @Starlink is being used by terrorists. Hope, Elon @elonmusk looks into it and helps control misuse of this technology.”

Musk, replied to the user saying, “This is false. Starlink satellite beams are turned off over India.”

Musk provides another clarification

Replying to another post, Musk said that Starlink the internet beams were never ON over India.
“The beams were never on in the first place,” he said.

It is important to note that Starlink currently does not have a license to operate in India, which raises questions about the device’s authenticity and legality. The alleged Starlink devices was found during a search operation on December 13.
